Aldara (imiquimod) is a very effective topical cream that is applied directly to the surface of the skin to treat several skin conditions including: external genital warts (EGW) and actinic keratosis (AK). Most often the patients who experience these skin conditions are subjected to painful outpatient surgeries which can have limited successes. Aldara offers a painless and non-intrusive form of therapy that really works and that can eliminate AK and EGW in a matter of 16 weeks or less, when used as directed.
While Aldara topical cream may be right for most people there are some people who may not be able to use Aldara. Women who are pregnant, or who are currently nursing or women who are trying to conceive should talk to their doctor before using Aldara cream. Always consult with your physician and make sure to tell them about any drug allergies you have before using this prescription drug to treat your symptoms.
Aldara works by targeting the infected cells and alerting the body’s natural immune system defense cells to the targeted area, allowing for rapid progress to be made as the body naturally defends itself. Aldara cream usually takes anywhere from 12-16 weeks to show signs of total cessation of the symptoms. Aldara cream is very effective in treating external genital warts and actinic keratosis.
Genital warts are caused by HPV (Human Papilloma Virus) in the skin. They can start off as small, red spots that continue to grow and develop into warts over time, if left untreated. HPV is very contagious and can be contracted merely by skin-to-skin contact with an infected area. The warts can grow to all sizes and shapes, most often resembling a cauliflower like mass of flesh. They can itch, bleed and remain sensitive, or have no feeling at all. Genital warts are most commonly found near the genitals and the anus, but can also occur in and around the mouth, and in and around the genitals, and the anus.
Aldara topical cream has been clinically proven to have an astounding success rate in the patients who use it to treat their symptoms. During the clinical trials, which encompassed equal vehicle groups consisting of both men and women, Aldara was proven to eradicate all wart growths in 82% of the vehicle group during a 12-16 week period of time. While your warts may go away when treated with Aldara cream, there is always the potential of a reoccurrence, as HPV can lie dormant in the skin for years.
Like most prescription drugs Aldara cream does have some potential side effects which can occur when using it. During the test trials these side effects were limited, occurring in less than 5% of the patients who were administered Aldara topical cream.
Only use this prescription medication as directed by your doctor. Never overuse Aldara topical cream and always wash your hands thoroughly following each usage. Make sure to consult with your doctor and to tell them about ALL of the drugs that you are currently taking, even if they are not prescribed. Women who are pregnant, nursing or expecting may not be able to use Aldara topical cream. This topical cream has not yet been tested in children under the age of 18 years.
