Condylox (podofilox topical) is a prescribed topical gel which is used to treat both external genital warts (EGW) and actinic keratosis (AK). When used as directed by a doctor, this drug has been shown to eliminate the symptoms associated with these two conditions.
While this drug may be right for most people there are some people who may not be able to use it. Anybody who has an allergy to any of the ingredients in Condylox may not be able to use this gel as well as women who are expecting, pregnant, nursing or planning on having a child. Ask your doctor if Condylox is the right drug for you.
Currently it is fully unknown just how this drug works. What is known is that it has been proven clinically to eliminate external genital wart tissue on skin and it is approved by the FDA (Food and Drug Administration).
There are some classic signs to genital warts, which can lie dormant in the skin for up to three years or longer before showing signs. Typically they start off as small, red bumps which may or may not be sensitive to the touch and can itch or bleed. Over time and when left untreated, they will continue to grow ultimately resembling large, cauliflower-like masses of flesh.
While this drug may not work for some people, it has been proven to be very effective for most people most of time, when used exactly as directed by a doctor. Typically treatment involves three to four weeks of topical therapy or until all visible genital wart tissue is gone.
Like all drugs, there are some side effects which may occur including:
In rare cases, a serious and potentially dangerous allergic reaction occurred which included the following symptoms: swelling of the tongue, the face or the lips, shortness of breath and or breakout of hives—if you experience any of these potentially serious allergic reactions STOP taking Condylox and seek immediate medical treatment
Always consult with your doctor to make sure this is the right drug for you. Be sure to disclose to them all the drugs you are currently using to avoid any potential interactions from occurring. This drug is only to be used externally and where directed by your doctor.
